Binakol is a type of traditional weaving pattern originating from the northern region of the Philippines (Illocos and Abra) pre dating Spanish colonization. The geometric designs weaves were originally used to confuse and ward off negative spirits, their dizzying patterns being representative of the sea. Binakol is made using pedal looms by the most skilled weavers in Abra through our partner Anthill Fabric Gallery.
